Sanabel Team - How We Started, & Purpose Behind our Name
This team all started with Osama; a simple man from Gaza who turned into an activist wanting to help provide the needs of his people around him. This initiative began in the small city of Khan Younis, helping families with the support of international students who cared about our people and helping us save lives. These community-based efforts have expanded since 2018, serving thousands of Palestinians in many ways. Such as funding education and paying school fees, feeding many families through distribution of baskets filled with food, and providing daily necessities to survive in Gaza while under decades-long siege and blockade. During the genocide these needs became larger and support for our team expanded to worldwide solidarity. You can see an archive of our past work here and current work on our social media pages published weekly.
What made you choose the name for “The Sanabel Team”?
It is an Arabic name with multiple meanings, including “plant ears” “ears of wheat,” and “plant spikes” that is, the part of the plant with which love is formed. Also symbolizes goodness and blessing, which is one of the religious names mentioned in the Quran. Allah Almighty says in Surah Al-Baqarah: (like a grain, seven seeds sprouted in every one of the hundred grains).
Every day we remain steadfast, every action we take is a step towards a brighter future for the families we have been supporting in Gaza since 2018. Together, we create a ripple effect that nourishes not just bodies, but souls. Our commitment to making a difference in our community is unwavering.
